New Class: Essentials Fundamentals for Pregnancy

Essential Fundamentals for Pregnancy

The journey of pregnancy can be filled with excitement, wonder, anxiety and a host of well-meaning sources of information. How does an expectant mother sort it all out? Essential Fundamentals for Pregnancy will cover the most important aspects of what mothers-to-be want to know.

Some of the topics discussed include:

• Coping with physical discomforts of each trimester • Best practice to help with physical changes (sleep, diet, sex, exercise) • Moving from partners to parents • Making the most of maternity benefits • Working with your health care providers to explore optimal birth choices   The class packet will also include information on pre-natal class options, childcare options and helpful resources (on-line, print and videos). The last 30 minutes of class will be devoted to questions and answers for specific pregnancy questions.   The class will be facilitated by Ami Burnham, a Licensed Midwife, Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Ami has worked in San Francisco for the past 10 years as a midwife, lactation consultant, childbirth and prenatal educator as well as a facilitator for new parents groups at various locations. She has been invited to speak at midwifery and obstetric conferences as well as university classrooms and has, for the past 5 years, volunteered annually to train midwives and traditional birth attendants in Haiti and Sierra Leone.
